National Service remembered

This year is the 60th anniversary since the end of National Service in Britain. To mark the occasion Creative Word PR was honoured to support Staffordshire public art specialists Making Trails in creating a unique exhibition at The National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas.

Remembering National Service, working in conjunction with the Royal British Legion, was an inperson month long interactive exhibition which explored the life, sacrifice and service of the 2 million men who served in post war conscription.

The exhibition, which is currently available to view online, will continue to be available to view and explore online until the end of the year and includes an interactive Matterport walk through of the exhibition in situ.

The opening was attended by HRH Princess Anne and over 2000 former conscripts and families in a special ceremony to honour those that served.

Cheryl Morris, who wrote all the content for the exhibition as well as the online version, said: “It was an honour to be involved in such a historically important project.

“Remembering National Service helped to explore and remember those who served as well as walking visitors step by step through what service involved from conscription, to training and deployment. Understanding life at the time and the impact such service had on not only those that served but their families left behind and the wider community.

“It is a project I am proud to have been involved in.”
